Contractors say the demolition is the easy part! Within three days, they filled the first big red dumpster to overflowing and carted it away. Gone was our 1950s kitchen; gone was our over-sized, outdated bathroom; gone was our galvanized plumbing; gone were the mouse nests!
The walls were taken out to expose our kitchen to our office and dining room and our bedroom to the upstairs bath. We can begin to see the renovation that we envision, a much larger, functional kitchen with views into the dining room; a new powder room to replace our water closet - a toilet, in a closet (no more hitting knees on the bathroom door and no more washing these hands in the kitchen sink!); and two new full baths.
The most exciting part of the renovation for our son is his OWN bathroom. No more sharing with Mom, Dad and the dog - the bathroom was that big - we could all be in there at the same time. Alas, our son, Wilson, is now 14 and there is no sharing bathrooms with "the rents". Rob already has dibs on Wilson's spa retreat after he goes to college. I hope those three years go real slow!
